I absolutely love this rod, easy to build as this guys sends everything ready to build, great rod to cast, this is my first spey rod after start with switch and I’m don’t touch my switch rods since I started fishing with this one, thanks very much, looking forward to build a trout spey now...
Great rod and fun project
An excellent kit that had everything that I needed. I was anxious to use the rod and so assembled it over two days. It turned out rather nicely and on its first outing yesterday, I managed to catch one of the largest rainbows I had ever experienced here on the Columbia River in BC. It might have been luck, but it was also because this rod casts so well. I was able to cast to fish that typically are beyond my reach.
DH13 two hander 5/6 weight
As I’ve come to expect from Epic kits (this is my fourth build on an Epic blank), everything in the kit was top-notch (the cork is just amazing!). I’ve fished it regularly over the last month and absolutely love it. It was exactly what I was after. Light in the hand, crisp with the power to deal with big water and strong fish. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this rod to anyone in the market for a light two-hander.
Love the rod!
I recently bought and built the D13 Epic Spey ready wrap kit! The kit came with everything needed to build and had a very thorough step by step guide that made it easy and fun. This was my first build and as a two handed rod the task was a little daunting at first. The whole process took about 5 days including drying time. I was on the water with my new rod within a week and have now fished it several times. Although I haven't hooked into the monster steelhead I have have been hunting for the rod has performed well. I would recommend this product and these people to anyone from beginner to expert because of the quality and care that you get. Thank you again for a great experience.
My first two-handed rod, and probably the only one I will ever need
Having built three Epic rods so far, I couldn't resist picking up the DH13 when it was offered at this price. I have been wanting to get a Spey rod for some time - but the price was often the barrier. This was simply too good an offer to refuse. As with the other rod kits I purchased, this was no exception when it came to the quality of the components, and the customer service. Top-notch all the way. When the cork in the handle split while dry-fitting it to the blank, Swift had a replacement on the way by courier the next morning, no questions asked. This is what I have come to expect of the team at Swift, and one of the reasons I keep buying from them. Their customer service is second to none - and I dont mean within the fishing community - but across all areas of the retail market. Others could learn from their example. As for the rod - having never cast a two-handed in my life, this was all new territory for me. And what better way to break it in than a trip to New Zealand's Tongariro river. I purchased the 6-7 weight, which is marketed as being suitable for "Steelhead and large trout" - so figured this would be what I would need to wrestle with some of the fish that come out of this region. Firstly, I was superised at just how easy it was to cast this rod. Within 5 minutes or so I was managing to fire a Skagit line most the way across the river, and to cover some serious water on the swing. As I became more confident I started to experiment with adding more power to the cast. This rod is a beast. Super responsive and a solid lower section meant you could really pile on the power if needed. Once hooking up the tip was responsive enough to handle fighting big fish without putting the tippet at risk. I had my first fish on within 15 minutes of fishing, and landed the largest fish of the trip (5lbs) on this rod. Given I live in New Zealand, this will probably be the only two-hander I ever buy. It's more than up to the task of tackling the trout of the Taupo region, and will also be suitable when I ventually head to North America to chase Steelhead. So if you were thinking of getting into the two-handed game, look no further. Buy this rod.
