FastGlass II™ All Epic "Glass" rods are produced from industry-leading 8 micron Unidirectional S-2 Glass. This next-generation fiber is specifically engineered for fly rod production and features 8-micronfibers developed and produced in the USA. These fibres are almost half the diameter of other unidirectional materials, resulting in tighter, more precise and stronger fly rods.
SnakeBelly™ SnakeBelly™ delivers the toughest exterior finish possible. After production, blanks are first painted and then clear coated. This two-step process produces blanks that are incredibly scratch resistant and durable.
SureFit Ferule™ Break a tip? we've got you covered This ferule system is so precise that breakages can be addressed by simply sending out the replacement part. Gone are the days of having to return a broken section.
Handcrafted one at a time - especially for you Choose the options you'd like on your Epic fly rod and we'll build it for you with tender loving care right here in our Wanaka Studio. Built Epic Tough Epic glass rods are incredibly tough. Our S2 FastGlass II has a far higher strength-to-weight ratio than Carbon fibre (graphite) rods. Epic FastGlass rods can endure more acute and severe bends than the equivalent Carbon fibre or even regular S2 glass, tip sections are stronger and far less susceptible to breakages due to high-sticking and problematic rod angles when pulling against load.
My EPIC 476 was the first fly-rod I've bought blind, without checking it in the shop or directly on the water in advance. Besides this, I've never fished a glass-rod before and was a little nervous about it... I was only used to medium-fast or fast graphite rods (mostly Sage and Loop) When my rod arrived, I fell immediately in love: Beautifully crafted with it's perfectly wrapped rings and a translucent blank which seems to glowin the sunlight. The performance on the water was even better: During casting, there is not much difference to a graphite fly rod no flabby blank and no unnecessary false-casting. But the most fun is fighing the fish: You can feel nearly every movement, the rod flexes extremely well and still has enough power to tackle bigger fish and keep them away from heavy cover. Here is an example: I've hooked the fish just behind a bush and I had no problem, keeping it away from the branches:
Final statement: This rod is definitely a keeper!
The 476 Packlite is the finest medium to large stream backcountry fly rod. Short enough to fit into a daypack, long enough to reach out when needed, and able to handle a wide range of flies including small buggers and streamers.
First things first, this rod is beautiful. The attention to detail is perfect. I have heard nothing but top notch comments from friends that own these rods from their quick customer service response to the craftsmanship and the performance of these rods. This rod has held true to everything I was told. I look forward to taking this rod on many Colorado adventures.
Ive only been out with this beautiful rod twice and love it
I’m an old handicapped kayak fisherman In Texas and fully expect this critter to be successfully involved with bluegill, crappie, catfish, and bass of three to four pounds.
A better report next year.
