Bob Wyatt

Bob Wyatt has fly-fished for trout in North America, Europe and New Zealand since the 1950s, and has been a regular writer for FlyLife, and Fly Fishing and Fly Tying magazines for many years. His book, Trout Hunting, challenged some conventional thinking regarding how trout work, and presented some fresh insights on why some great old flies continue to catch fish after a century or more of increasing fishing pressure. The reason is that, contrary to much expert opinion, trout are not getting smarter. If presented well, some fly designs are basically irresistible to a feeding trout.

Over fifty years of fly fishing has convinced Wyatt that a few basic designs will cover almost any fishing situation, and in most cases will catch fish better than specific patterns created for the so-called ‘selective trout’. The reason they work so well is because of the way a trout’s brain works. These fly designs are based on the most important ‘triggers’ to a trout’s feeding response – a fly’s size, shape and posture in the water. In fact, Wyatt regards a suggestive impression of a trout’s food to be far more effective than a close copy imitation. Presentation is the key. With these flies you can confidently fish for trout, anywhere they swim.

Over some 30 years of fly fishing and many hours spent with anglers and casting students, we came to realise that certain important aspects of fly casting and fly fishing were being overlooked - and that the cane & glass guys had known it all along.

Fast and stiff are not always the most desirable traits in a fly rod, and fuller flexing rods can not only be more fun to fish with, they help protect light tippets and are much kinder to fish, and fly anglers.

The Materials

Epic fly rods are made to exacting standards using either a proprietary S2-glass composite or a multi modulus, helical constructed low resign Carbon Fibre system.
Although fast for fiberglass, our fuller flexing FastGlass blanks have a beautiful soulful feeling and are incredibly tough.

Our Carbon Fibre blanks are light, crisp and at the very forefront of fly rod design.

Each material features a unidirectional fibre layup which aligns fibers longitudinally along the blank. The result is an incredibly strong, light and powerful tube with a crisp, precise response. This recipe, rolled to our Epic tapers combine silky smooth easy loading with trophy pulling power.

Regardless of the material you decide to choose, you have before you what we sincerely believe is the very best fly rod produced.

All jargon aside, these fly rods are just fantastic to cast, they look incredible, are super tough, and are a hell of a lot of fun to fish with.

No more excuses...

Over time I have tried to find ways to simplify my fly tying with fewer fly types that contain few but durable Materiel. I now have no more excuses. The DVDs are very informative and helpful and will together with the book What trout wanna be useful in near future.
