The mighty 888 was designed specifically for chasing Big Bonefish but is just at home wrangling large freshwater species too. Given there’s not a flat where the wind doesn’t blow we’ve given the 888 an extra powerful butt section, strong tip and fast recovery rate to help punch a line out into those skinny water breezes.
The Epic 888 has gained cult status with Redfish, Pike, Musky and Golden Dorado anglers world wide. If you're chasing big toothy courtiers - this is the weapon of choice.
Regarded by industry pro's and glass aficionados world wide as the best glass 8wt made, the Epic 888 presents beautifully but packs a bad ass attitude. Perfect for tossing big flies, swinging streamers and saltwater work.
The 888 is as strong as an ox, super smooth and extremely versatile.

Extra Lucky In Chinese tradition, certain numbers are believed to be auspicious and possess special powers. The number 8 signifies prosperity and wealth and is viewed as such an auspicious number that a number with several eights is consideredvery lucky indeed. We think the 888 is extra lucky because, like us, it was made in New Zealand.
I was finally able to spin this one up with a carbon fiber grip and Snake Brand guides. This rod is butter. It casts so easily and far. For a glass rod, it shoots line very well. Casting is accurate and consistent and setting the hook and landing a big largemouth is like a religious experience. Great work (again) Epic!!
This rod handles a line of 9 as effortlessly as an 8; the line stays high, the loop is tight, the shoot is endless. I launched a huge streamer with no problem. I can't wait to test it in real conditions in a terrain worthy of this rod.
One of my favorite rods is an 8 weight because of its versatility; largemouth bass, pike, steelhead, salmon, large trout, redfish, and bonefish have all been caught. That’s what prompted me to build this 8 weight but I had no idea how sleek it would turn out. The slate blank just “pops” with blue-ish grey power. The weight of the rod is not light or heavy....it’s just right. That translates into a rod that feels very stout but casts are easy and accurate. This is definitely a blank where beauty meets utility. Epic hit the ball out of the park with this one and the 888 should truly be THE standard in bigger game rods.
A bit early for a performance report, but my new 888 blank looks and feels the goods for it's intended use as a 'light' saltwater rod. Flawless, arrow straight blank with perfect ferrule fit and judging from how it 'feels' assembled, it will fit the bill perfectly. A few projects to complete first, but it will be ready for our Summer.
