Yep, because we just can't bear to do what everybody else does we had to put the Epic spin on our rod tubes.
Hand rolled from cross weave fiberglass, our Epic tube is incredibly strong yet decidedly feather like in the weight department. Finished in a tough clear gloss top coat.
It will not ding & dint like the other guys el-cheapo extruded aluminium tubes, nor is it so damn noisy! - these babies can roll and slide around in the back of your truck without you having to turn up the Creedence to drown out the din. (Creedence should be on full V's regardless btw)
Our hand fitted aircraft grade Aluminium end caps are deep anodized then laser engraved with our classic Epic logo. Why you may ask? - because it's cool we reply.
The kicker - you know those crap rubber washers found under tube end caps? - the ones that probably aren't there anymore because they got squeezed out, perished and split from screwing on the end cap?
We don't have 'em.
Our exceedingly clever designer gave this seemingly minor problem a lot of thought and put together end caps with a recessed rubber O-ring - you know, just like O-rings are supposed to work…
Now, wouldn't you have though someone would have come up with that before. Soon, everyone will be doing this... (Thank you Stephen)
After ordering a blank and tube I then asked to upgrade to the build your own kit for a 686 in Olive which was duly accepted. Great communication from Hayley all the way. I have built the rod up and so far haven't tried it out but it looks promising. This is the fourth Epic rod I've built for myself (376, 476, 480 and 686) and I have to say they are all fantastic rods - so much so that I've been selling off my carbon rods as I no longer use them! I keep looking for an excuse to get another...
These tubes are all class. Light enough to pack into the back country, plenty strong enough to look after the rod, and the water tight cap does just that, seals the tube well enough you could use it as a bouyancy aid.
All round, I don't see how you could improve it.
I purchased the natural rod tube via email before they were available online (Saw an Instagram post before release). The customer service at Swift is truly top notch. I am very pleased with my purchase. The tube itself is much more durable then I expected, and it matches my custom nude 686 perfectly. The quality of the tube matches Epic blanks, impeccable. I will, of course, be purchasing more products from Swift. Great work dudes and dudettes!
